Privacy Policy

Last updated 9/23/2026.

iep.tips is a community resource for parents navigating IEPs and special education. This policy explains what we collect and how we use it. We aim to collect as little as possible.

What we collect

  • Account info: the name, email, and optional phone you provide. Your name and email are never shown publicly; other parents see only an automatically generated anonymous handle.
  • Submissions: the stories, contacts, ratings, and comments you post. You choose, per submission, whether it may appear publicly and whether it may be shared with awareness recipients.
  • Messages: private messages are encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest. Treat them as private but not zero-knowledge — a court order or abuse investigation could compel disclosure.
  • Technical data: standard server logs (IP, browser) for security and abuse prevention.

How we use it

To operate the site, moderate content, prevent abuse, and — only with your explicit per-story consent — forward your story to the news outlets and public officials configured to raise awareness.

What we don't do

We don't sell your personal information. We don't show your real name or contact details to other users. We don't display a public story you did not consent to publish.

Your choices

You can request correction or deletion of your account and submissions at any time via the contact on our disclosure page. Children should not create accounts; this service is for parents and guardians.

Security

We use encryption and access controls, but no system is perfectly secure. Please don't post information you would not want disclosed.
