Why we built iep.tips
Every parent deserves a roadmap — not a fight. But sometimes you just have to fight. This is why we're here.
iep.tips started at a kitchen table, with a stack of paperwork and a kid who deserved better.
Like a lot of parents, we walked into IEP meetings trusting that the system would do right by our child — and walked out learning that getting the services our child was legally owed meant knowing the right words, the right people, and the right steps. Nobody handed us a map. We pieced it together the hard way: late nights reading IDEA, emails that went unanswered, meetings where we felt outnumbered, and small victories that only came once we stopped asking and started advocating.
Along the way we realized two things. First, we weren't alone — other families in our own district were fighting the exact same battles, often without knowing it. Second, every hard-won lesson we learned could save the next parent months of struggle, if only there were somewhere to put it.
So we built that somewhere. iep.tips is the roadmap we wish we'd had: a place to find your district, read what worked for other families, see exactly who to contact and how to escalate, and — when it's bigger than one child — organize with other parents and bring in the media and officials who can force change.
We rate districts, not people. We keep it factual, and we keep it free, always, for families. Because every parent deserves a roadmap — not a fight. But when you do have to fight, you shouldn't have to do it alone.
— A parent, and the family behind iep.tips
